Dear Friends,

We would like to invite you to two special programs being held at our building this Sunday, October 14th.  Sari Nusseibeh, President of Al-Quds University, will be speaking about his book Once Upon a Country - A Palestinian Life starting at 3:30 P.M.  Following that, the dedication for the Interfaith Mural will take place at 5:00 P.M. in the Hillel Auditorium.  I hope you can attend.  For more information please click here.

A more extensive program report will be sent later this month, but since I am writing, I want to take this opportunity to inform you of some other events that happened during Sukkot....

Hillel Events

Two events were covered in the Case Observer, the student campus paper, in their October 5th edition.  As a response to an act of vulgarity with anti-Semitic overtones, our students initiated a response to promote peace and tolerance on campus.  The related article can be viewed at:

Also, in reaction to the Walt and Mearsheimer visit to the Case Western Reserve University campus on September 30th, Caleb Posner, a freshman, wrote the following:

Unpopular Reason: Israel Lobby talk displayed unsound argument, anti-Semitic sentiment

Oberlin Hillel was recently involved with two very unique programs.
The first was a mini course on the Arab-Israeli Conflict held with special guest professor Dean Munther Dajani of Al-Quds University in East Jerusalem.

Secondly, during Sukkot, the Oberlin Hillel organized a special music program and performance entitled " Convergence and Creativity: Islam, Jewish and Christian Music of the Middle East".

We brought a traveling sukkah to Cleveland State University that was set up Tuesday afternoon during Sukkot near the student union so that both the Jewish students as well as the campus community could learn about the Holiday.

Yotam Gilboa

All The Best,

Gary
