-RED ALERT- The Story of Sderot Friday, 11/21 - 12:30-1:30pm Nord 310 - Free Lunch Provided
Noam Bedein from Sderot Media Center will speak about Sderot, the city under constant attack. This is one of the most severe issues currently happening in Israel.
Sderot is an Israeli town only a kilometer from the Gaza Strip border. It has been the target for many attacks by Palestinian terrorists, mainly members of Hamas. Sderot is relentlessly shelled by hundreds of rockets, including mortar bombs and Qassam rockets. The town has suffered the loss of residents and children. Ariel Sharon, in response to outrage over the plight of the town, installed a "Red Dawn" alarm system that gives 15-20 seconds of warning before an attack. However, the system is widely considered insufficient.
For me, this is one of the most important event where people can see the Israeli side of the conflict that is often not shown in the world media.

Rabin Memorial Day
On November 4, 1995, Yitzhak Rabin, the Israel prime minister was assassinated by Yigal Amir, a radical right-wing Jew who opposed the Oslo Accords. The shooting took place as Rabin was leaving a mass rally in Tel Aviv. He was rushed to a hospital where he died of blood loss and a punctured lung.
In Israel, it was a big turn, a new age and period started. I am not offering my political stance, but, in addition to the fact that the peace processes stopped, when a prime minister is assassinated, it creates a new black dawn for democracy in Israel.
Rabin was one of the founders of Israel, a pillar who fought before Israel was established and after. He fought in the War for Independence in 1948, Six Days War in 1967, and later served as Defense Minister and twice as Prime Minister. He signed the peace treaty with Egypt in 1979. He sent Arafat a letter officially recognizing the PLO. Rabin oversaw the signing of the Israeli Jordan Peace Treaty in 1994.
Of blessed memory, Yitzhak Rabin.
